My husband and I are leaving soon to serve in the Peace Corps in Morocco for 27 months.  I would like to adopt the visible symbol of marriage for Moroccan women (ie, wedding ring, third eye, nose ring), but do not know what it is. Can you help?

My fiance and I will be married in Marrakech in two weeks. We are not Moroccan, and the hotel has organized a small wedding (we are eloping) involving the henna, seven changes in clothing, the marriage contract, milk and dates, and a singer and musicians. I have two questions:
1.  Does anyone know how long the henna will last on our skin?
2.  Are there any other important elements that are not listed above?

My husband and I are planning a 10- day trip to Morocco in October 2002. We are told it can be good to have a guide arranged to accompany us thus avoiding any issues on arrival and whilst travelling. Can anyone recommend a reputable and trustworthy company? Should we book before we leave Australia? Any ideas of costing for the 10 days?

I'm going to Marrakech for three weeks and  will be staying locally with my wife's grandmother. Any suggestions for a local internet service provider so I can keep up with my work while I'm away? Also, what are the considerations for plug types, electricity, adaptors, modems, etc.?

I will shortly be going to Morocco for the wedding of a friend of mine. She comes from a rather wealthy family so I am assuming that it will probably be a traditional Moroccan wedding. What should I expect? What should I wear? Are there traditions that I should be aware of? Should I bring gifts?

While eating at a Moroccan restaurant in Orlando, we enjoyed a wonderful roasted pepper (green and red, I believe) salad.  I cannot seem to find a recipe for it and wondered if there is an on-line source where I might find something similar.  It was incredibly delicious.

From: Jan Williams-Ashad
I have a recipe from my mother-in-law for  grilled peppers in charmoula (tomato, garlic, and coriander) sauce.
First grill raw peppers and a couple of small tomatoes on the flame of a gas stove, gas grill, or charcoal.  When all sides are blackened, put the peppers in a plastic bag for a while.  When cool, remove all the charred skin, seeds, and membranes and cut into small pieces.
While the peppers cool, make the charmoula.
Peel the tomatoes, remove the seeds, and dice.
Add to a frying pan 1 T. olive oil, 1/2 - 1 tsp. cumin, 1/2 - 1 tsp. paprika, 1 tsp. salt, 1-2 small hot peppers (if you wish), and diced tomatoes.  Cook until soft.
When almost finished, add the cut up peppers.  Tomatoes " melt".
BisaHtskum.

I'm interested in finding a Guinbri for sale ... If you can help in my quest, please contact me!

From: Fatiha
You can find one in Marrakech. Do you need it for professional use? If  yes, please email me back and I will help you to find a real one. My husband is a professional musician, he plays oud and all the Moroccan instruments. He has a ganbri that he inherited from a famous Berber musician who died a few years ago.

My husband and I had a wonderful Moroccan dinner this week. The main course - lamb - was served with an onion-honey-raisin sauce. Is this a traditional sauce? I have tried to locate a recipe on the internet with no luck. Can anyone help? Can anyone recommend a cookbook which might have such a recipe?

We are having a party in Chicago and are looking for Moroccan percussion, music, and dance sources. Until now we have not been able to locate any. Can anyone advise?

From: Jan Williams-Ashad
Look on-line for Asilah Ganawa, or any Ganawa music. The Asilah group has CDs for sale on-line, or your can record the music from their site.  If you like drumming, Ganawa is fantastic.  Also good is Andalusian music, brought from Spain during the Inquisition.  Do a search for Andalusian music or for Andalous.

In doing family research, I ran across a L'Hage Hamed O Bryhim listed as an old governor of Mogador, probably in the late 1700s. How can I verify this and obtain further information?

I've managed to bring home a Tajine dish from Morocco but before I cook with it for the first time, I would like to know how to season it. The man I bought it from did try to explain that there is a three-stage process to this, but my Arabic is not really up to scratch.

From: Samir Hitan
First of all you have to put the dish on the stove with a little water and oil on low heat for approximately 20 minutes, until the water has been partly absorbed. Now the dish is ready to be used. For further help email me.

I'm planning a long trip to Morocco, probably lasting a few months. Is there a limit to how long I can stay there?

From: M'Hamed el Kadi
Staying in Morocco is not a problem at all. You can stay for up to three months without residence card - your entry at the borders stamp will do. If you plan to beyond the three month period you have to request a residence card. Alternatively, you can make a one-day trip to Seuta or Melilia (Moroccan cities up north close to Tangier under the control of Spain) and then back to Morocco for a further three months.
