In 1993, elite American forces abseiled from helicopters in Mogadishu, Somalia, on a mission to abduct two warlords and return to base. The plan went wrong: in the ensuing battle, 18 Americans died and dozens were wounded. The fiasco still haunts the US military, and the film has been released amid talk of renewed American intervention in Somalia - this time to track down Usama bin Laden's supporters.
