General information for tourists travelling to the Republic of Yemen:

RESERVATION

Very High Season: 15th December to 15th January, reservation 3 months in advance.

High season: 16 January to 15th May and from 15th September to 14th December. Reservation 2 months in advance.

Low season: 16th May to 14th September, reservation 1 months in advance or less.

   

VISA

An entry visa is required from all those visiting Yemen and can be obtained from any Yemeni Embassy. Tourists are allowed to stay for a period of one month. Those desiring a longer stay should renew their visas at the Immigration and Passport Office.

ACCOMMODATION

Hotels: There are two first class hotels in Sana’a and one in Aden along with second and third class throughout the Republic with varying, but appropriate rates.

Camping: Canadian tent for two persons and big tents for four and eight persons. Camping equipment: (kitchen material, mattress, etc.)

   

SOUVENIRS

The 'Jambiya' - the famed Yemeni dagger - is worn by most Yemeni men. Prices range between US$15 and US$300. Various pieces of silver work are also on sale. Tourists will be intersted in the Yemeni handicrafts.

CLIMATE

Yemen has a good and moderate climate. In the highlands (1,500-3,760 metres) the temperature is not more than 30°C in summer.

In the coastal areas, the Red Sea and the Indian ocean, the climate is hot and humid; the temperature is more than 35°C in the summer and its good in the winter, when the temperature is about 25°C.

In the desert of the Empty Quarter (al-Rub' al-Khali), Marib and Hadhramaut, the climate is very hot and dry.

Generally, we can say that the climate in Yemen is dry, sunny and occasionally rainy (rains fall in the spring and summer).

   

CURRENCY

Yemeni currency is the RiYal consisting of 100 Fils, which is issued in banknotes and coins.

This currency can be changed to any other currency only in Yemen. For one US dollar you will get 150-160 YR.
